That - I don’t know what

That - I don’t know what

That - I don't know what

A few years ago I was working on a photo book about Russian folk tales and the title "Go there - I don't know where, Find that - I don't know what" reflected the artistic method. I always carried a camera with me, because I never knew in advance where and when I would be able to find a new image for the book. But all the photographed objects and plots are always recognizable, and only when placed in the context of a fairy tale narrative did the books acquire a new fairy tale vibe. Here, everything turned out differently. The objects presented in this series were found in the area where I live (and I didn't have to go "I don't know where"). Their purpose is unknown. One might think that these are fasteners or stands for flower pots. But in the year during which I have been observing them, except for a bag of garbage that once hung on the structure, no other purpose has been noticed. The design of these structures looks strange: in my opinion, it would be more appropriate to see them in some gallery of contemporary art. They reflect the spirit of the times (Zeitgeist) more than any utilitarian purpose. As if the public utilities themselves, without knowing it, placed site specific art installations in Moscow courtyards.

To highlight the objects from the environment and to give them even more mystery, I photographed them with a flash at night.
